was effective for controlling 64% of patients, with partial control achieved in an additional 13%. The incidence of side effects necessitating drug withdrawal was 15%. In the study of Hammill et al, most patients (60%) had no significant cardiovascular disease, while 74% of Kerr’s group had primary AF without associated heart disease. We had a lower success rate than these 2 previous groups, but our patient population all had underlying heart disease and chronic AF. The arrhythmia may have been more difficult to control due to these 2 vaiiables. cardia. Am J Cardiol 1983;S2:1208ml 213. 2. Podrid PJ, Lown BL. Propafenone: a new agent for ventricular arrhythmia. Electrophysiologic effects of sotalol and amiodarone in patients with sustained monomorphic ventricular tachycardia.
No prospective studies have compared sotalol and amiodarone during electropharmacologic testing. The purpose of this prospective, randomized study was to compare the electrophysiologic effects of sotalol and amiodarone in patients with coronary artery disease and sustained monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT). Patients with coronary artery disease and sustained monomorphic VT inducible by p...
متن کاملTHERAPY AND PREVENTION 'ARRHYTHAIA Prognostic significance of the number of induced ventricular complexes during assessment of therapy
We analyzed 255 long-term trials of antiarrhythmic therapy, each of which had been evaluated at electrophysiologic study, to identify the maximum number of induced ventricular complexes consistent with the long-term efficacy of antiarrhythmic therapy. All patients had spontaneous and inducible sustained ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. The incidence of therapeutic efficacy a...
متن کاملThe response to procainamide during electrophysiologic study for sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias predicts the response to other medications.
We evaluated 126 patients with inducible sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias to assess whether the response to procainamide during electrophysiologic study could predict responses to other conventional antiarrhythmic agents and combinations of agents. Thirty of 42 patients in whom tachycardia was not inducible after the administration of procainamide and 69 of 84 patients in whom ventricular...
متن کاملTreatment of frequent ventricular arrhythmia with encainide: assessment using serial ambulatory electrocardiograms, intracardiac electrophysiologic studies, treadmill exercise tests, and radionuclide cineangiographic studies.
The effects of encainide on ventricular arrhythmia and left ventricular function were studied in 21 patients with chronic, high-grade ventricular arrhythmia using a prospective, 3-month, placebo-controlled, single-blind trial design. Encainide caused a 96% decrease in the average hourly frequency of ventricular premature complexes (VPCs) and comparable reductions in salvos of nonsustained ventr...
متن کاملClinical predictors of inducible sustained ventricular tachycardia during electrophysiologic study in patients with chronic Chagas' heart disease
Clinical independent predictors of inducible sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) during electrophysiologic study (EPS) are not known in patients with chronic Chagas' heart disease. The purpose of this investigation was to fill this gap.The medical charts of 47 patients with a positive serology for Chagas' disease who had undergone EPS between September 2006 and July 2012 at our institution w...
